An afternoon downpour put the game in the balance but luckily Timperley's new state of the art drainage system did its work and the game went ahead under blue skies. The Bears were still smarting from their recent SMJCL Cup quarter final defeat to Timperley and the boys were determined to give a better account of themselves on the night. Timperley won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch still slick from the afternoon's rain. The strip included an adverse camber presumably introduced as part of the wider ground works to aid the flow of water away from the square.
Brooklands bowled intelligently with Sam Hill and Tanmay Seth restricting Timperley's dangerous opening pair to 17 off the first 4 overs. This was backed up with agility in the field from Jacob Bayliss and Finley Newton resulting in a modest total of 263 for Timperley to defend. The pick of the bowlers were Sam Hill 0/4, Ollie Gartside 1/5 and George Myddelton 1/4, supported by good catches from Krishan Khunger and Matthew Mills.
In reply, the Bears were introduced to the target run rate for the first time this season. With Timperley's talented keeper stood up to the stumps, the early pairs needed their wits about them (and their feet on the floor) to protect their wickets. They batted carefully, running singles and taking boundaries off bad balls before our bigger hitters moved through the gears in the latter overs. Matthew Mills 30* off 15 and George Myddelton 20* off 12 top scoring in a convincing victory for Brooklands, watched over by a certain S C J Broad from the front square.
