Stand-in Skipper makes it rain sixes.

Brooklands First XI moved to within a point of league leaders Lindow in the Cheshire County Cricket League - 1st XI Division 2 with a victory over a very strong Warrington First XI who, last season, dropped down from Division 1 and many expected to dominate the league this year.

Kevin Carroll skippered the side in the absence of Jack Bagshaw, won the toss and elected to bat.

Christian Hart hit 2 early boundaries but departed early to Rob Batey (3 for 63 off 15 overs) and when Dave Cunliffe followed shortly after the home side found themselves with some rebuilding required.

Kevin Carroll joined Alex Edwards in the middle and no doubt confident after his century the previous week set about going after the Warrington Bowlers.

In what can only be described as an astonishing display of power hitting, Carroll took control of the innings and bludgeoned an almighty 170 from just 82 balls before being caught off the bowling of Jonathan Fletcher (1-63 off 10 overs). Carroll smashed a mammoth 14 fours and 15 sixes on his way to his career high score, a performance of which will unlikely be seen at The BCG for a long time.

Alex Edwards assisted with a quickfire 30 from 29 balls and a solid partnership between Doug Whyley (31 from 39) and Luke Maitra (20 from 14 balls) got the hosts to 283-7 from just 40 overs before declaring.

At the turn around, giving Warrington an additional 10 overs seemed a little risky but Caleb Jones (1-30 off 7 overs) made an early breakthrough to settle some nerves.

After a middle order collapse which saw Rob Leach picking up 3 for 45 off 10 and Joe Gill get his maiden First XI wicket of the season in a cameo which saw him pick up a handy 1-7 off 3 overs, Brad McIntosh and wicket keeper Sam Houghton mounted an 7th wicket stand.

Both batsman made centuries before McIntosh fell to Gill for 66 and Houghton was dismissed by AJ Hart (2-24 off 8.5 overs). These dismissals along with the removal of Rob Batey for 41 pretty much signalled the end of any fightback by Warrington and with Chris Hart picking up 3 wickets off of his 9 overs, the Warrington innings ended, albeit in the 58th over of the 60.

With 4 wins on the bounce, The Bears will be looking to extend this good run of form at home to Romiley on Saturday 16th June. Get down and show your support.
