Cricket exploded back into life at Brooklands CC on a glorious day that provided a mixed set of results for the three senior teams.
The First XI began their campaign away to Lindow and took the opportunity to blood in some junior player George Foreman, Tom Lett and Sam Higgins who will be hoping to solidify a spot in the team for the coming season.
New Captain Jack Bagshaw won the toss and elected to field and after a slowish start it was one of the newcomers Foreman, who immediately made an impact, removing both Lindow openers on his way to impressive figures of 3-30 off 7 overs.
Tom Lett (1-18 off 7) assisted Foreman in removing the Lindow top order and when former captain AJ Hart (2-17 off 15) and stalwart Caleb Jones (2-31 off 10) pitched in to mop up the rest of the order, Lindows innings finished in the final over for just 140.
It took Brooklands just 30 overs and the loss of just 4 batsmen to chase down the Lindow total. Openers Jack Bagshaw (37) and Dave Cunliffe (22) look solid before both were removed by Atiq-Uz Zarman (2-17 off 6) and Tim Young (2-47 off 14) respectively.
Last year’s leading run scorer Kevin Carroll continued last season’s good form with a quick fire 59 before he became Youngs second victim leaving AJ Hart along with Ali Buchan, returning from injury, to get the team over the line with overs and wickets to spare.
A great start from the First XI who will be looking to capitalise on this Saturday 28th April when they host Mobberley at 1pm at the BCC.
