Brooklands inaugural All Stars programme concluded earlier in July bringing to an end 8 weeks of fun filled cricket sessions for our first intake of All Stars.
All Stars Cricket is a brand-new initiative from the England and Wales Cricket Board launched in 2017 aimed at providing children aged five to eight with a great first experience in cricket.
The programme is designed to teach the basic skills of the game. Each week the children earned stars that matched the skills learned during the programme:
Batting – hitting a moving ball
Throwing – underarm and overarm
Catching – small and large balls
Bowling – overarm
Running – lots of movement
Teamwork – fun games with friends
Communication – the basics of cricket
Spirit of Cricket – how to respect others
The programme signed off for the 2017 junior season with some games of diamond and caterpillar cricket followed by a chance for each of our All Stars to bowl at their mums and dads! Every child took a home a certificate of completion and a special All Stars sticker.
Congratulations to all the children and their parents who attended the programme and a big thanks to all of our fantastic All Stars Activators and helpers who made it all possible: Martin Bland, Patrick Bland, Becky Myddelton, Chan Singh, Andy Howells, George Storrow, Bill Nicol, James Robinson, Sam Higgins and Cam Buchan.
