The second XI made the short trip to Bowden to take on Bowden CC’s second XI in the CCCL 2nd XI First Division. Fielding a much changed side from the previous week, skipper Alan Millington won the toss and elected to put Bowden into bat first.
Bowden opener Ben Atkinson stubbornly reached 56 before being caught and bowled in a fruitful afternoon with the ball for Sam Higgins.
Atkinson had plenty of support from the middle order with Simons (23), Grosfils(24), Ronson (32) and Williams (21) all chipping in with important runs.
The wickets were shared around amongst the youngsters with Higgins (3-23 off 9.4), George Jones (3-19 off 9) and Cameron Buchan (3-36 off 10) all finishing with 3 wickets each.
With a score of 177 to chase down, the visitors got off to a disappointing start losing Bagshaw early on. James Robinson top scored for the 2s with 20 before he was caught by Ronson off the bowling of Oliver Williams.
Brooklands struggled to form any sort of partnership with small pockets of resistance being shown by Doug Whyley (18), George Jones (12) and Sam Higgins (10). This resistance was to prove in vein as they found themselves bowled out for 87.
The 2s kick off their cup season against Ashton-On-Mersey second XI at The BSC on Tuesday 9th May at 6pm and look to bounce back in style. Come down and back the boys if you can!
