New Selection System for 2008
This season, selection for the senior teams at Brooklands will
be operated through a new online system which has been kindly
suggested and made for us by Dan Quirk.
The new system entirely replaces the old text-message system
which has been used in previous years.

How the system works
Each player is allocated a personal account on the selection
website. All current members should already have an account
set-up or have received an invitation to create one. If you do
not have an account, but wish to be considered for senior teams
this season, please get in touch with
Andy Batty who will be able to create an account for you on
the system.
Once players have logged in to their account, they can see a
list of upcoming games and can mark themselves
as either available or unavailable for each game. If a player
does not enter either status, they will be presumed unavailable
and will not be selected. During the season, players can log
back in to the site at any point if their availability status
changes for any reason and alter their status for any game.
During each week of the season emails will be generated
automatically by the system to act as reminders:
• The first will refer to the player's availability status as
indicated on the website. It will ask if this status remains the
same and, if not, remind them to alter it on the site. If a
player does not take any action in relation to this first email
before selection takes place, they will be presumed to be
available or unavailable as already indicated on the site.
• The second email will be generated after selection. It will
inform a player which team(s) they have been selected for (if
any) and also of the meet times for these games and any special
arrangements. The email will remind players of the need to visit
the site again in order to ‘tick-off’ (i.e. to confirm that they
have received the information and are able to play).
• A third email will be sent if a player has not ticked-off by
Wednesday evening of the relevant week. If a player fails to
tick-off after this reminder email has been sent, the player
will be considered unavailable and his place allocated to
another player.
The new system does not rely on emails in the same way as the
old system relied on text messages however, so users who do not
regularly check their emails should not panic. The emails act as
reminders only, and players can still use the system if they
never check their email, as long as they remember to visit the
selection website to mark their availability and visit the site
after selection every week to see who they have been picked for,
when the meet is and to tick off. However it is likely to be
beneficial for all players to check their emails regularly to be
reminded about selection matters.
Summary
1. Mark availability on the selection website (before selection)
2. Tick-off on the selection website to confirm (after
selection)
It should be stressed that text messages will no longer be sent
about selection. This new system entirely replaces the old one
and nor is it enough to have told someone at Brooklands that you
are available or aren’t available for a particular game (this
includes telling your captain). Selection will take place on the
basis of the information held in the online system so it is each
player’s responsibility to ensure that they keep their
availability status up-to-date throughout the season.
The selection site has been designed to be self-explanatory and
easy to use. However, if you have any problems or difficulties
using it (or discover any bugs in the system), you should
firstly enter your query on the feedback form on the site. If
you are still having problems, please get in touch with
Andy Batty who can be contacted by email or by phone.
