Brooklands merge with
Sale Moor (1 December 2007)

Jeff Marland (Chairman of Brooklands CC) presents a plaque
to Rob Jones (Secretary of Sale Moor CC)
to commemorate the merger
"We are pleased to announce the merger with Sale
Moor Cricket Club.
This has arisen because Sale Moor over the past few years have
struggled to put out two teams every week, culminating this
season in being able to field only one team. Given the shortage
of playing members, looking forward they cannot see the
situation being any different.
We have had some discussions and agreed to enter an extra team
in the Saturday 3rd XI League, which has been accepted by the
Cheshire County League. This extra team will in essence comprise
of the current Sale Moor members and will play their home games
at Sale Moor. The versatility of becoming members of Brooklands
allows the enlarged membership the opportunity to play in other
teams on Saturday and Sunday.
The benefit of having an extra ground will enable us to play at
Sale Moor on Sundays and Junior games during the week, this of
course will take some pressure off our wickets.
We hope to arrange some functions at the Sale Moor Club in an
attempt to get to know each other and to help ease the
integration.
We think this is a positive move which will benefit the members
from both clubs."

Renovation of the
Clubhouse
Just prior to the formal merger of the two
clubs, but once most arrangements had been finalised, it was
decided that volunteers from Brooklands would do some work on
the Sale Moor Clubhouse in order to clean up, brighten the
paintwork and generally renew the interior. Much work remains to
be
done on the outside, but hopefully this can be undertaken more
easily in the summer months under the Natwest Cricket Force
scheme.
Special thanks for the renovation work should go
to:
-
Mark and Paul Vesey
-
Andy Batty and Frankie Platt
-
Lisa, George and Alex Drakonakis
-
Kay and Jack Bagshaw
-
Dave Conville (for kindly supplying a new
carpet)
-
Mike Woodage (for supplying some new
pictures for the walls)
If you hover over the links below, you can see
how the club looked before and after the work.
Merger Celebration
Evening (1 December 2007)
On 1 December 2007, an evening to celebrate the
merger of the two clubs was held in Sale Moor's newly renovated
clubhouse. The evening was a great success, with members of both
clubs new and old enjoying drinks, food and a quiz together.
Hopefully this will be the first of many events which Sale Moor
will be able to host.
