This year, the Brooklands CC community scheme
will be run by Alan Inkpen. Alan is a retired teacher who is an
ECB level 2 coach. He will conduct after-school clubs at:
Springfield Primary School (Tuesdays)
St Mary’s Primary School (Wednesdays)
Heyes Lane Primary School (Thursdays)
and
Brooklands Primary School (Fridays)
There will also be cricket weeks at Brooklands CC throughout the
Whit and Summer holidays and the 1 – 1 sessions will be
available (see the
News page for updates).
Alan will also be assisting with the Ladies coaching. If anyone
has any questions about the community scheme please get in
touch.

The Brooklands CC in the
Community Scheme is just about to begin its 4th year.
Over the past 3 years 255
After School Club classes have been delivered across schools in
the Sale and Altrincham area. An amazing 2283 children have
attended these classes!
The scheme has also ensured
that local primary schools have also received 12 hours of free
coaching during curriculum time per year. Over a 3 year period
some 360 hours of FREE coaching have been delivered to local
schools.
The purpose of the scheme is
obviously to attract children to Brooklands CC and the game of
cricket. This I think we can say has been a success as we had 90
+ members of primary school age playing at Brooklands last year.
The clubs Under 9’s and Under 11’s teams continue to flourish
helped, in no small part by the yearly influx of children from
the scheme.
In the upcoming 4th
year coaching and curriculum time lessons will be delivered in 5
schools, those schools are:
Altrincham C of E Primary
School
Springfield Primary School
St Mary’s Primary School
Heyes Lane Primary School
And
Brooklands Primary School
The ongoing success of the
Community Scheme is central to the development plan of
Brooklands Cricket Club. On a personal level it was nice to see
some of the boys who joined on the back of early community
schemes know playing within the under 13s section at the club.
This is proof enough that ‘catching them young’ works, and with
any luck these lads will still be playing when they are seniors
for Brooklands. We need to keep finding the boys who are going
to ultimately join the Academy (see relevant page) and go on and
play senior cricket at whatever level for the club.
It has also been nice to see
that lads who have learnt there cricket in the Academy and
decided to take the UKCC coaching badge have put it to good use
by delivering the community scheme these last 2 years. Hopefully
Tom Mitchell and Tom Holloway are richer for the experience, and
will be able to put it to some use in the coming years.

been delivered to local schools.

Sponsors
have helped our cause over the past couple of years and our
thanks here go to Brian Johnson, The
TACS Partnership and
Sportsmatch who have all sponsored us.
Sponsors are continually sought for the scheme.

The first full year of the cricket
in the club's community scheme was a resounding success.
Curriculum time coaching was delivered
FREE of charge in 10 local primary schools. Upwards of 100 hours of coaching has
been delivered in total across the 10 schools. Classes were delivered to
children as young as six all the way through to the eleven year old year 6
children.
A number of children, who gained first exposure to the game
through the scheme, have come down and joined the section in the under 9 and 11
age groups.
Each of these primary schools then ran
an after school cricket club for the duration of the summer term (Easter till
July). During this time some 1236 children attended 126 after school clubs that
were delivered by coaches from Brooklands Cricket club.
The 10 schools who were involved in the
scheme were:
Springfield
primary school
Brooklands primary school
St Josephs RC primary school
St Marys primary school
St Annes C of E primary school
Park Road primary school (Timperley)
Woodheys primary school
Navigation primary school
Hayes Lane primary school
Altrincham C of E primary school
The scheme will swing into action again
in January, with all the above schools likely to be involved again.
As well as providing coaching in Primary
schools the scheme also took a coach into Sale Grammar School. 50+ hours of
coaching were delivered by a Brooklands coach on the timetable at SGS. Players
in years 7, 8 and 9, were hand picked to spend there PE lesson with the
Brooklands coach over a 6 week period. Pupils had experience of facing the
bowling machine, as well as having net practice and some ‘basics of the game’
coaching. It was pleasing to note that 2 of schools teams, containing
predominantly Brooklands players, progressed to the Semi Finals and final of the
Cheshire county schools cup.
Involvement at the school is likely to
commence again in October. Plans are well advanced for more involvement with
school teams once next season starts.
